First-year admission requirements
Saint Martin’s University has no GPA, SAT, or ACT requirements or
minimums for admission. We evaluate each application holistically
and take into account all information presented in an application
when making a decision.
As a guideline you can use this information about
students admitted to the Fall 2011 freshmen class:
- Middle 50 percent range high school
GPA: 2.93 – 3.62
- Middle 50 percent range SAT critical
reasoning: 440 – 590
- Middle 50 percent range SAT math:
460 – 600
- Middle 50 percent range SAT writing:
440 – 560
- Middle 50 percent range ACT: 18 – 24
High school course selection is important in our
decision making process. It is recommended that high
school applicants complete an academic program that
follows this pattern:
English – 4 years
At least three
years of study should be from college preparatory
composition and English literature. (One year may be
satisfied by courses in drama, public speaking, debate,
or journalism.)
Mathematics – 3 years
College
preparatory algebra and geometry. (One additional year
in advanced mathematics is recommended for students
majoring in the sciences, engineering or business.)
Science – 3 years
College
preparatory science, including one year of a laboratory
science. (Three years of science with two years of
laboratory science are recommended for students majoring
in engineering or the sciences.)
Social science – 2 years
History, psychology, political science, economics,
sociology, and cultural anthropology.
Foreign language – 2 years
Any foreign
language or American Sign Language.
Academic electives – 3 years
Academic
electives and advanced study beyond the recommended course
pattern. (Additional courses in English, mathematics, laboratory
science, and foreign language will strengthen the student’s
application for admission.)
Students who do not fulfill these recommended course patterns
may be offered admission on a conditional status.
Running Start students
Washington State students who have taken Running Start
classes apply to Saint Martin’s as first-year applicants. This
also applies to students from other states with similar
dual-enrollment or "college in the high school" programs. To
receive credit for college level work, students must submit
transcripts from the college or university where they completed
the courses.
Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate credit
Students participating in the College Board’s examinations may
receive credit for exam scores of 3, 4 or 5. Exceptions to this policy
are General Education requirements in writing and literature. An Advanced
Placement exam score of 4 or 5 may exempt students from taking ENG 101,
but not ENG 102 or the literature requirement. Students with Advanced
Placement scores of 4 or 5 may receive elective credits in writing and literature.
Home school students
Home schooled applicants will be evaluated on an individual
basis. Applicants should supply as much information as possible
about their home school experience. At minimum, transcripts,
descriptions of all courses, with reading lists, should be
submitted to the Office of Admissions. If courses have been
taken at a local high school or college, transcripts must be
submitted.
Students who have applied before
Saint Martin’s University retains application materials of
those who are admitted but do not attend and those denied
admission. If you would like to apply again, please contact the
Office of Admissions for instructions. At minimum you’ll
need to submit transcripts for any work you’ve completed since
you last applied.
If you are a former Saint Martin’s student who would like to
return to the University, please review our information for
readmission.
