Life’s Experience: After graduating High School I went right into the Navy, spending 20 years in the Submarine Force. Since retiring from the Navy, I worked for 5 years as the Institutional Researcher at Rogue Community College in Grants Pass, OR, and worked at the Community Action Council of Lewis, Mason, and Thurston County where I worked for the Low Income Heating Emergency Assistance Program, and Distributing Federal Commodity Foods around 4 counties. Reason why I love working at Saint Martin’s: It’s the people!! Favorite thing about the Lacey/Tumwater/Olympia area: I used to like that there were stands of trees spread out throughout the entire community, but … Piece of advice for prospective students or applicants: Always show initiative and take charge of problems instead of letting the problems take charge of you. To put it another way, always try to be part of a solution not part of a problem. Favorite book and why: Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln by Doris Kearns Goodwin -- Shows Lincoln as a consummate politician (in a mostly good sense) Favorite movie and why: “Places in the Heart” -- A movie about overcoming circumstances. It’s set in the dust bowl during the Great Depression. One of the best and most complete endings (very last scene) I’ve ever seen. Favorite vacation/travel spot: Whistler BC in the summer. I'm inspired by: Honesty, Integrity, Compassion, Common Sense Favorite song or lyrics: Beethoven’s 9th
