Message from the director

The $1.8M Title III grant from the Department of Education provides great opportunities for the college to move forward in two significant areas (known simply as Activity I and Activity II). Our new administrative computing system (PowerCampus plus IQ.Web) will allow advisors and students easy access to transcripts, degree audits, and class registration without standing in lines. It will provide seamless integration of data among financial aid, student accounts, the registrar, and student services, making college business much easier for students, staff, and faculty alike.

By the end of Grant Year 3, the college was "live" with all modules of the new PowerCampus system, although full implementation still requires addressing various data issues and training needs. Data conversion and implementation has traversed a few very bumpy roads, but the college has improved data capability and fiscal management potential.

In Grant Year 4, strong progress has been made in the implementation of IQ.Web, the faculty and student interface to academic records. Many faculty are using IQ.Web for access to student records during advising, as well as taking advantage of some of its course management tools. In July 2005, IQ.Web was used for freshman advising and online registration, a significant Activity I milestone.

In September 2004, an equally noteworthy milestone for Activity II was reached: the Learning and Writing Center moved into its newly renovated space. The utilization of learning support services has risen sharply since the grant was awarded, and this was especially the case this past year with the opening of the LWC. The Activity II Faculty Development Advisory Board (FDAB) continues to support the expanded integration of technology in the classroom by offering faculty summer scholarships to support advanced technology-related projects and summer workshops for those just beginning to explore how technology might be used to enhance teaching and learning. FDAB also co-sponsored a day-long faculty workshop in February that addressed how students learn.

The grant has already brought significant improvements to Saint Martin's and the final year promises even more exciting developments. The Title III Team looks forward to another busy, but rewarding year, and we thank all Saint Martin's staff and faculty for your continuing contributions to the successful completion of the largest grant ever awarded the college!
