need to know a foreign language! Some Study Tours are offered for credit
as part of a course. Not only are Study Tours less expensive than
a semester abroad, many students are able to use their financial aid to

Information for Parents
We understand that sometimes parents have different concerns than their
students. Here are the answers to some questions parents often
ask:
How does study abroad benefit my student?
Now more than ever, it is important that students learn to be
responsible global citizens. Employer and graduate schools agree
that candidates who have international experience are more likely to
succeed after graduation. Whether students want to improve their
language skills, experience new cultures, or see a different part of the
world, study abroad will open many doors to their future. Student
returning from study abroad programs say that they benefit most from the
self-confidence and new perspectives international travel fosters.
Is study abroad expensive?
No! Study abroad costs about the same as a semester of tuition,
fees, and room and board at Saint Martin's. Many students remain
eligible for financial aid, and in some cases extended aid is available.
There are also many scholarships available to students studying abroad.
Will my student fall behind academically?
No! As part of the application process, we require that students
speak to their advisors about study abroad and their academic goals.
Students are required to take a full course load while they are abroad,
and all the credits transfer back to Saint Martin's either as elective
credit, or credit toward the student's major or minor.
Is study abroad safe?
Yes! Although it may be a little scary sending your student out
into the world, we work hard to make sure our students remain safe at
all times. We closely monitor our study abroad locations and will
cancel a program or return students if a region is found to be unsafe.
Flights, housing, and insurance are arranged well in advance of
students' intended departure dates. During orientation, we talk
about health and safety issues that may affect students while they are
abroad. For semester and summer programs, a second orientation is
provided on-site when students arrive in their host countries.
