First-Year programs for success:
The below are optional programs designed to enhance student success as
they transition to SMU. Students are encouraged to choose a program that
fits their interest area for a transformational experience.
What is advising and registration (A&R)?
A&R combines math and English placement tests, one on one advising, and
registering for classes into an exciting two-day program. You will have
the opportunity to connect with faculty and staff while also getting to
enjoy events such as laser tag and an ice cream social with other new
students. Since you have the option of spending the night on campus, be
sure to bring bedding for a twin bed or sleeping bag, pillow, a towel,
and toiletries.
What is Incipio?
Latin for "to begin or become," Incipio is your key to success
at Saint Martin's. Incipio is a four-day orientation program designed to
fit your needs as a first-year student. The schedule is full of
information and fun including lunch at the SMU President's house, a day
of service, Coffee House music night, and much more!
Who should attend?
Every new student participates in the orientation programs. Family
members and supporters of students are welcome and encouraged to attend
events planned specifically to help connect them to the SMU community.
What is Leap-In Traditions Camp?
Leap-In Traditions Camp is a two-day adventure for 25 incoming
first-year SMU students at Camp Arnold in Eatonville, WA. Participants
will enjoy challenging outdoor exercises, team-building activities, and
opportunities to learn the history and tradition of Saint Martin's
University.
Student participant who will be living on campus will move in on August
21, 2-5 p.m., prior to their departure.
What is Saints In Service?
Run through the Saint Martin's Office of Campus Ministry, "Saints In
Service, Finding God in the Poor" is an opportunity to be immersed in
the Old Town and Downtown Chapel communities of Portland, Oregon. During
this experience, students have the opportunity to engage in
relationships with many people experiencing a variety of circumstances,
providing them not only a chance to connect with their fellow saints,
but also with the world around them.
