Peer Tutor Job Description
Job description: Meet
regularly with students either individually or in small groups to assist them in
understanding course concepts. Share strategies for learning and studying to help students become more successful in learning independently.

responsibilities:
- Maintain and submit weekly tutor logs
- Complete and turn in monthly timecard on date due
- Prepare a short talk regarding your services and present to
applicable classes
- Attend and complete all required tutor trainings to build skills
in assisting students
- Attend mid-semester tutor meeting
- Participate in observation/evaluation process
- Meet with faculty in your subject area as needed
- Staff the LWC reception desk as scheduled
- Assist the LWC in promoting smooth operation of learning
environment and services
- Actively assist in keeping the LWC neat and presentable
Qualifications: Solid knowledge base in target course content (3.0
GPA or better). Evidence of effective interpersonal skills, dependability,
and desire to support students in their learning. Previous tutoring
experience, formal or informal, is helpful. Tutor must be recommended by
instructor/professor in the discipline they will tutor.
Hours:
Assignment of students to tutors is based on demand for services and
compatibility of schedules; no specific hours can be guaranteed. Attendance at training
sessions is required each semester in
order to tutor. Tutors are paid for training and for the time they actually
meet with students (unless hired for drop-in tutoring).
Salary:
$8.50 per hour; Hours 2 – 10 per week.

Complete tutor application, obtain a faculty recommendation, and be interviewed
by the Learning Center Director. Application forms are available in the
Learning
Center, Old Main 214. (Both work-study and non work-study candidates will be
considered.)
