Services
- Free tutoring:
Tutors provide individual or small group assistance with specific subjects
such as math, biology, chemistry, physics, world languages, history,
political science accounting, economics and
physics. Click here to learn more about
our tutoring services.
- Individual consultations:
Personalized learning consultations can be arranged by appointment with
Deborah DeBow, Learning Center Director.
In an individual learning consultation, you will learn how to
improve the results of your study efforts. Specific areas that are
commonly addressed are: managing time and workload demands, getting
more from reading, techniques for effective review, and how to
reduce anxiety before and during exams.
- Study skills information: A
variety of academic success workshops, online resources, and handouts are
available to increase knowledge of study skills and strategies. Academic
peer mentors assist fellow students with general study skills support.
- Academic Accommodations:
The University’s Office of Disability Support Services coordinates reasonable
and effective accommodations for qualified students with disabilities.
- Test proctoring: The Learning and Writing Center
prioritizes test proctoring for qualified students with
disabilities. Students who are in need of proctoring must seek
prior faculty approval and sign up in advance through the LWC
reception desk in Room 214. If you have a documented disability,
please check with Laura
Puryear, Disability Support Services Director to make
arrangements for testing accommodations. If you need a proctor for
reasons other than disability-related accommodations or a make-up
exam, please check with Deborah
DeBow, Learning Center Director. Make-up exams are
proctored on Mondays from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m.
When students request test proctoring, they are expected to:
- Sign up in advance through the LWC reception desk.
- Sign a test proctoring guidelines form.
- Submit a signed faculty approval form.
- Show up on time for the exam.
