'My Eye,' by Wil C. Kerner
|Eighteen-year-old artist Wil C. Kerner has been
called a “prodigious savant.” Diagnosed with Classic Autism and
Savant Syndrome, Wil has an extraordinary talent that has attracted
the attention of artists, collectors, galleries and the media. With
scissors and colored paper, he creates paper cut-outs that are
uniquely captivating in their bold simplicity. Wil began drawing
facial expressions and cutting construction paper when he was nine
years old, seven years after being diagnosed as autistic. By age 10,
he had mastered the art of making perfect cuts with scissors. Wil,
a.k.a. “The Cutout Kid,” is a prolific artist — some days crafting
characters that are captured permanently, other days cutting pieces
that never get used. His images, whether depicting people, animals
or objects, reflect the world through his lens of experience. Wil’s
art is represented by HeART, The Gallery and HeART of the Spectrum
in Seattle’s Pioneer Square in Seattle.
