Extension campuses contingency plans

To: Saint Martin's University Extension Campus Students, Faculty, and Staff
From: Director of Extension Campuses
Subject: Extension Campus Closures and Severe Weather Plans

This memo provides you with needed information and with contact points at extension campuses as well as the University’s main campus in Lacey. These contacts will help you in the event access to our extension campuses is restricted or denied due to heightened security and/or severe weather. Our goal in giving you this information is to ensure that inconveniences for extension campus students and staff are kept as minimal as possible.

In the event that security levels at the bases are raised or severe weather arises and education centers become inaccessible, we want to assure you that we are making preparations for your classes to continue. However, at no time should you use heightened gate security status or local weather conditions at either military installation or Olympic College as the only indicators of campus closure(s) or class cancellation(s). Campus closure and class cancellation verification procedures are explained below.

Post/base, Olympic College campus closure(s):

The Director of Extensions will be notified by base personnel of any changes in the current status of extension campus accessibility. In turn, the director will notify the University’s main campus in Lacey.

If extension campuses remain closed for three or more calendar days, classes will be looked to be moved to the main Saint Martin's University campus. This information will be provided to you by your instructors or from the sources listed below.

Where can I find information in the event of a base/post closure?

Saint Martin's extension campus offices will post messages on their voicemail. Students and faculty should call their respective Fort Lewis, McChord AFB, or Olympic College extension campus office numbers and listen for messages that will keep them up-to-date on the situation and on possible class cancellations.

Fort Lewis extension: 253-964-4688
McChord AFB extension: 253-584-3533
Olympic College extension: 360-475-7686

More information about possible campus closures or class cancellations will be made available through several other channels of communication:

  • On Saint Martin's University emergency/closure phone number: 360-486-8899
  • Media will be immediately notified about closures and details of the University’s contingency plans. Check local newspapers, radio stations, and television stations
  • Refer to the Saint Martin's University website: www.stmartin.edu.
  • Military campus students can check their respective base websites. For McChord AFB, http://public.mcchord.amc.af.mil and Fort Lewis, www.lewis.army.mil/eso
  • Olympic College students please check, www.oc.ctc.edu

In the event that extension campus students must attend classes on the main campus, they will be provided with handouts which will include main campus maps, parking information, and other information on basic services and helpful information.

The University’s extension staff offices and personnel also will be relocated to the main campus to serve students in the event of extension campus closures.
