 Appalachia trip 2004

Appalachia 2004Between May 10 - 17, 2004, the week after finals and graduation at Saint Martin’s College, ten Saint Martin’s students went on a trip to the Glenmary Farm in the Appalachian region of northeastern Kentucky.

It was a trip that participants could experience on various levels– to work with marginalized people, to build for the economically disadvantaged, to experience the simplicity and joy of Glenmary spirituality, to meet students from other parts of the country, and to experience southern culture.

Trip to Italy, 2005

In the spring of 2005, Campus Ministry efforts culminated in a ten day cultural– religious tour into the heart of Catholic history- Milan, Venice, Florence, Assisi, Rome, Sorrento and the Mediterranean island of Capri.  As a bonus, they visited the monastery founded by St. Benedict himself in the sixth century, Monte Cassino.

The educational aspect of the trip was augmented by the requirement to choose one of three one– credit classes associated with the trip.  Thus, professors Dr. Stephen X. Mead (English), Darrell Born (Music), and Fr. Benedict (Religious Studies) accompanied the trip and assigned class work to be done to intellectually process and articulate the experience.
