Tell me about your service trips!
Service trips are powerful opportunities to broaden our
understanding of the daily realities of others in our world. We
travel to communities outside our immediate campus and, when we
return, we have experiences which give us insights into the
needs of those around us and the ways in which we can use our
talents for their benefit.
Saint Martin's Catholic Benedictine tradition inspires us to
recognize the dignity of all people regardless of class,
background or professional skill. With this perspective, we
desire to make the world a better and more just place. These
trips are filled with opportunities to see successful programs
that help achieve that goal. Participating in and learning about
them provides a springboard for our own ideas and goals back
home.
What trips do you offer?
The two main opportunities are available to students. Each
spring is our yearly Service Trip which occurs at the
very start of summer and is fundraised for throughout the spring
semester. This trip's destination is determined each year and is
always beyond Washington State.
Throughout the year are smaller trips to downtown Portland,
Oregon where collaboration with many wonderful agencies provides
an enlightening experience and demonstrates the successes of
local grassroots efforts to serve those who live on the margins
of society and create true change.
