ESA school counselor program overview
Saint Martin’s University has developed an excellent reputation
for educating compassionate, capable, effective school
counselors over the last 20 years. Based on follow up studies of
our graduates, 95 percent of each year’s graduates searching for
positions have found jobs within one year. The program is flexible
with most classes in the evenings. Many of our students work
during the day. Although the program must be completed in seven
years, the speed of completion is up to the student (up to a
maximum of 12 credit hours per semester).
Certification approaches
Teaching certification is not required to be certified as an ESA
school counselor in the state of Washington.
Two approaches to ESA certification are available. Those who
have completed a master's degree prior to completion of our
program can follow an ESA certificate-only approach. Those
without a master's degree are required to complete our MED
Program in the guidance and counseling strand.
Please see the
ESA-MED handbook
(PDF), and
ESA Certificate Only handbook for more details.
