Head coach Julie Sullivan
Coach
Sullivan came to Saint Martin’s in January 2004 to assist former Head
coach Brad Hooper. It quickly became apparent that the experience of
Coach Sullivan at grass roots and national level competition was
impacting the program. Nate Carlson and Andy Prentice, twice, achieved
All American status following Coach Sullivan’s track workouts, and the
workouts Coach Sullivan devised for the team culminated in two new
Conference Championship records, ten new school records and more than
forty new personal bests in 2007; while John Riak became Saint Martin’s
first NCAA Div II Cross Country competitior and All-American.
Julie Sullivan was born in Birmingham in the U.K.
While in the UK, Sullivan joined a running club at the age of 12. She
began running Cross Country and the 800m and 1500m. She was the
equivalent of the State Champion in the 1500m and 2nd at the High School
Cross Country Championships. She was the Midland Champion in the 400m,
as well as the Silver Medalist at the English Indoor 1500m. She
qualified for the final of the UK Olympic Trials in the 1500m in 1996
and has represented Great Britain twice at small meets in Europe.
Sullivan’s versatility shows having achieved rankings in the 400m, 800m,
1500m, and 3000m, on UK track lists and in the 5-mile and 10-mile on UK
road lists. She was the team manager for the U-20 England Team in 1995
and 1996.
Coach Sullivan competed collegiately at Seattle
Pacific University where she was an NCAA Division II All-American in the
1500m. Back surgery prematurely ended her career as a top class
competitor.
Coach Sullivan’s personal records include: 12.5 in
the 100m; 56.06 for 400m; 2:07.59 in the 800m; 4:48.42 in the mile;
9:46.01 for 3k on the track, and 28:10 for 5 miles, and 59:44 for 10
