Women’s Soccer: Saints suffer loss in double overtime
October 27, 2007
Bellingham, WA – Western Washington’s Lucy Miller
headed in a ball in the 105th minute giving the Vikings the 1-0 win over
Saint Martin’s Saturday night in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference
match at Orca Field on the Whatcom CC campus.
“We feel unlucky to have gone into OT for the third
time this year and come out on the losing end. Getting there was a good
battle with a regionally ranked team,” said head coach Rob Walker.
Morgan Claire sent a through the air in front of the
goal and Miller was able to head it in from three yards out.
The two teams battled through the first two halves.
Western Washington got off 25 shots in regulation but only four on goal.
The Saints sent 11 at the Western Washington goal but were also unable
to find the back of the net.
“The first 20 minutes were the best part of our
game, that’s when we posed Western Washington with some of the most
difficult bits in the game for them to solve. Late in the second half we
had a couple of good penetrating balls as well and just did get enough
out of them. We just gave up a free kick and a couple of corners in
overtime. We kind of opened ourselves up for the go ahead goal.
Overall though, the game was good for us in that we
were organized which was good to see.”
SMU keeper Breanna Klasen spent the entire game in
the goal posting four saves along the way.
“Jessica Wilson played center back for us tonight
and did a great job. Trisha Halvorson and Kayci Donatelli were solid in
midfield and Ashley Biral had her usual hardworking skillful game up
front.”
The Saints head to Ellensburg on Monday to take on
the Wildcats of Central Washington University.
