Women’s Soccer: Saints defeated by Vikings
September 30, 2007
Lacey, WA – Western Washington had two goals in each
half on their way to a 4-0 win over Saint Martin’s Saturday afternoon at
the Regional Athletic Complex.
The Vikings picked up their first goal just four
minutes into the game when a free kick by Claire Morgan was deflected by
Molly Shannon and eventually headed in by Amanda Font. They would tack
on another in the 11th minute on a cross from Morgan to Shannon.
In the second half Western Washington scored on a
corner kick that was headed by Brynn Regan and kicked in by Rosie Zadra.
Their final goal would come with just under 10 minutes left as Lucy
Miller sent one into the back right corner of the goal.
The Vikings sent a total of 23 shots at eh SMU goal,
10 in the first half and 13 in the second. Michelle Donachie spent all
90 minutes in goal for the Saints and posted 11 saves.
“Today was tough as we found ourselves a little
played out from Friday's game vs. Central. We took our lumps on Friday
and were definitely feeling the effects today. Dealing with this kind of
adversity is a part of the college experience and even though we put a
patched up team on the field today, the kids gave it a good honest
effort,” said head coach Rob Walker. “As we head into this week we'll
rest up and get ready to play a very competitive side. A few days rest
and preparation should get us on track as we really want that first
conference win.”
The Saints’ next game will put them against Western
Oregon University in Monmouth, OR on Saturday.
