Women’s Soccer: Saints defeated by Crusaders
September 22, 2007
Lacey, WA – Katy McNutt scored two goals for
Northwest Nazarene on their way to a 3-0 victory over Saint Martin’s in
conference soccer action Saturday afternoon.
The Crusaders got all three of their goals in the
first half. McNutt picked up her first goal in the 17th minute on a
cross that hit off the SMU goalkeeper. She would score the third goal of
the game, her second, 11 minutes later sending one into the back right
corner.
Northwest Nazarene’s second goal came on a penalty
kick by Marie Smith at the 27:37 mark.
“This was a game that if you hadn’t read the
scoreboard midway through the first half you wouldn’t have known we were
three goals down. We paid a dear price for several simple mistakes and
got punished for them. The kids fight was good but we’ve got to improve
our quality as a team,” said head coach Rob Walker.
The Crusaders outshot the Saints 15-5 with 10 in
just the first half. Breanna Klasen and Michelle Donachie split time in
goal for SMU. Klasen had four saves and Donachie had three.
“Jessica Wilson was very good in midfield as was
Trisha Halvorson. Michelle Donachie played very well in goal; we were
very pleased. Julianna Sackeyfio did well up front and was dangerous on
many occasions,” added Walker.
Saint Martin’s will be at home against Central
Washington on Friday, September 28.
