September
8, 2007
Spokane, WA – Whitworth University picked up a
hat-trick from freshman Emily Rohde on their way to defeating Saint
Martin’s 7-0 in non-conference women’s soccer action Saturday afternoon.
Whitworth got three goals in the first half and four
in the second. Their first goal came in the 14th minute when Rohde
scored her first goal on an assist from Greta Thibodeau. She would score
the Pirates third and fifth goal in the 43rd and 71st minutes. Thibodeau,
Kelly Baker and Lindsey Oakes all had a goal and an assist for the
Pirates. Jenny Krzymowski sent a shot into the goal at 75:55 to score
the final goal of the game for Whitworth.
Breanna Klasen and Michelle Donachie split time in
the goal. Klasen picked up five saves in the first half while Donachie
had one. Whitworth goalie Leah Motz had to make only one save to post
the shutout for the Pirates.
Whitworth outshot Saint Martin’s 23-2 including a
13-1 advantage in shots on goal.
“It’s always hard in a game like this to find bright
spots. We came out in the first 15 minutes and looked very good against
a tough team. They were able to break us down and cause problems for
us,” said head coach Rob Walker. “It’s great to play a team like this
because it gives us the opportunity to reinforce that we still have work
to do. We have to get right back to it because we have big conference
games coming up.”
The Saints’ get set to face Seattle University on
September 14th in Seattle. It will be the first conference game for the
Saints and the second to Seattle.
