Women’s Golf: Saints take third in Hawaii
October
30, 2007
Waikoloa, HI – Babe Prante led Saint Martin’s
University to a third place finish at the Third Annual Dennis Rose
Women’s Intercollegiate at the Waikoloa Kings’ Golf Course with a fourth
place finish of her own.
High winds with gusts of 35 to 40 mph made for harsh
playing conditions during Monday’s final round. Prante, who used solid
rounds on day one to help her stay near the top of the leader board,
shot a total 244 over the two-day three-round tournament. She put up a
76 in round one and 78 in round two with a 90 in round three.
“They were really tough playing conditions today
with the wind as strong as it was. It was an extremely tough day and the
scores reflect that. I give the girls a lot of credit for battling
through it,” said head coach Bob Grisham.
Stacie Henden was the other Saint to finish in the
top ten. She shot a 247 to end up tied for eighth overall. Finishing
tied for 17th was Lauren Roberts who shot 80 in both rounds one and two
and 94 in the final round for a total of 254. Amy Dalzell wrapped up
play tied for 35th while Alexi Coltom was 48th. Dalzell shot 264 and
Coltom combined for a 274.
“I was really pleased with the way we played over
the first 36 holes,” said head coach Bob Grisham. “We were unable to
catch the two teams ahead of us to start the day but were happy with the
fact that we were able to hold off Chico State,” added Grisham.
This tournament wraps up the fall season for the
women’s golf team. They will start up their spring schedule in February
with a trip to Austin, Texas.
