Women’s Golf: Saints finish fourth at Grand Canyon Fall Invitational
September 27, 2006
Goodyear, AZ (September 26) - The Saint Martin's
Women's Golf team finished an impressive fourth at the Grand Canyon
Invitational Tuesday. The Saints shot the third best round on the final
day to solidify their sport in the top five.
SMU came in with a 306 on day two for a two day
total of 627, beating Western Washington, by one stroke, for the first
time. Cal State San Marcos had Tuesday's best round of 301, winning the
12-team tourney with a score of 609. Southern Nazarene came in runner-up
11 strokes back at 620 followed by St Mary’s University with 623.
"The girls played really well. We had solid play by
everybody. For our first tournament everybody performed great. We had
four girls break 80 in the second round,” said head coach Bob Grisham.
“We have a few girls who are new and don't have a lot of Division II
experience so for them to come out of the gate like they have is good to
see."
Babe Prante led the Saints finishing tied for fifth
in the tournament after shooting a 76 in the first round and 75 in the
second. Stacie Henden tied for 16th with a tournament total of 157.
Maria Laraisse finished in 24th with 159. Lauren Roberts and Alexi
Coltom tied for 27th both shooting 163.
The Saints are back in action October 9th when they
travel to Bellingham to compete in the Western Washington Invitational.
