Women’s Basketball: Saints’ season ends with loss to SPU

Seattle, WA - Saint Martin’s started off slow and
couldn’t recover as the fell to top-seeded, Seattle Pacific, 92-49,
Friday night in the first round of the NCAA Division II Women’s West
Regional at SPU’s Brougham Pavilion.
The Saints found themselves down 9-0 nearly five
minutes in until a jumper by Dara Zack finally put them on the board at
the 15:19 mark. SPU maintained their lead, going up by as much as 14 in
the half. Saint Martin’s cut that to six with 1:20 to go but the Falcons
scored the last five points of the half to take a 37-26 advantage into
the break.
Seattle Pacific, the nation’s no. 2 ranked team,
opened up the second half with a 23-2 run to all but put the game away.
Jackie Hollands led the way for the Falcons with a game high 22 points
including 5-8 from the three.
The Saints were led by Dara Zack with 14 points.
Jamey Gelhar had 12 points, going 6-6 from the line, while Sade Smith
added 11 points. Katie Hawkins pulled down a game high seven rebounds.
Saint Martin’s shot just 29.4 percent from the field
and committed 24 turnovers while the Falcons had just nine.
The Saints, who made it to the regional playoffs for
only the second time in school history, finish the season 17-11.
