Women’s Basketball: Seawolves rally to beat Saints

Lacey, WA – The University of Alaska Anchorage came
back from a 10 point halftime deficit to defeat Saint Martin’s 49-44 in
conference action Saturday night at eh SMU Pavilion.
Anchorage shot just 25 percent in the first half
going seven for 28 from the field and the Saints were able to take a
29-19 lead into the break.
With 15:49 left in the second half Michelle Short
hit a three to put the Saints up by 13 but the Seawolves cut SMU’s lead
posting a 14-0 run over the next nine minutes to take the one point
advantage, 40-39.
The score was tied 42-42 when UAA’s Dasha Basova hit
a three with 1:26 on the clock. Short hit a pair of free throws with 18
seconds left but the Seawolves sank two of their own just two seconds
later.
Saint Martin’s got off one final shot but couldn’t
connect and Anchorage converted two free throws for the final margin.
Short got a game high 18 points from Short while
Dara Zack added 10. Amber Harmon led the Saints with six rebounds and
had three assists and two steals.
Anchorage got 11 points from Kalhie Quinones.
Rebecca Kielpinski and Basova added 10 points apiece with Kielpinski
pulling down a game high nine rebounds.
The Saints, now 15-6 overall, 8-4 in conference, are
on the road next week against Western Oregon.
