Women’s Basketball: Saints win close game in OT

Seattle, WA – Dara Zack’s jumper with 4.5 seconds on
the clock gave Saint Martin’s the 62-60 win over Seattle University in
Great Northwest Athletic Conference action Thursday night a the Connelly
Center.
Neither team had a double digit lead the entire
game. The biggest point advantage came with 2:55 left in the first half
when Seattle went up by eight but the Saints quickly cut that margin
scoring the final seven points to make it just a one point differential
going into the break.
The score was tied five times in the second half and
changed leads 13 times with neither team able to go up by more than six.
In the overtime, Saint Martin’s went up by four
twice, the final time at the 2:09 mark on a basket by Kassie Ludeman to
put the Saints up 60-56. The Falcons were able to tie it on a jumper by
Alysse Carlson followed by two made free throws with 31 seconds left.
SMU took two timeouts and with the clock winding
down Zack hit the game winning jumper with 4.5 seconds remaining.
Seattle got off one final shot but missed a jumper at the buzzer.
Zack picked up a double-double with a game high 24
points and 13 rebounds. Ludeman added 16 points and eight boards on the
night.
The Redhawks were led by Jackie Thomas with 12
points, she was also was credited with four assists and eight steals.
The Saints, who improve to 5-3 in the GNAC, 12-5
overall, travel to Montana State Billings to take on the Yellowjackets
on Saturday.
