Women’s Basketball: Saints fall in final minute
December 21, 2007
Monmouth, OR – A three-point shot by Cal Poly
Pomona’s Ashley Moody with 23 seconds left to play was enough to give
the Broncos the 69-66 victory over Saint Martin’s Friday night on the
final day of the GNAC/CCAA Challenge at the WOU Physical Education
Building.
The two teams were tied for the fifth time at 66-66
when Moody hit the three. Saint Martin’s got off three shots, including
a layup and two threes, but was unable to connect on any of them as time
ran out.
The first half remained close as the Broncos never
built more than an eight point lead and held the 34-27 advantage going
into the break.
The Saints would string together an 8-2 run to pull
within one to start the second half but CSUPP would again take an eight
point lead with 12 minutes to go. SMU battled back never letting the
Broncos go up by more then four the rest of the way.
With a minute and a half to go Michelle Short put
Saint Martin’s up by three sinking two from the line and hitting a
jumper but a layup and made free throw by Vanessa Dominguez would tie
the game and the Broncos were able to put it away.
Kassie Ludeman led the Saints with a game-high 22
points and nine rebounds. Michelle Short and Amber Harmon added 11
points each with Short tallying three steals.
The Saints, now 7-2, will kick-off conference play
on January 3rd as they take on Seattle Pacific in the first game of a
doubleheader at the SMU Pavilion at 5:30 p.m.
