Women’s Basketball: Saints win close one over Lumberjacks
December 21, 2007
Monmouth, OR – Kassie Ludeman’s offensive rebound
and put back was enough to give Saint Martin’s the 65-63 win over
Humboldt State in the first game of the GNAC-CCAA Challenge Thursday at
the Physical Education Building in Monmouth.
Saint Martin 's led for most of the first half, but
trailed 24-21 with 6:30 left before going on a 15-3 run that was capped
off with a three by Jamey Gelhar giving the Saints their biggest lead of
the half and a 35-27 advantage going into the break.
Humboldt opened the second half with a 10-0 run to
take the two point lead. The two teams would then trade the lead a total
of nine times throughout the half.
The Lumberjacks had the three point lead with one
minute left to play when a layup by Dara Zack cut it to one. The Saints
drove the lane and missed with four seconds left but Ludeman was able to
pull down the board and bank the shot to put SMU on top by one.
Humboldt State tried a three-quarter length pass on
the inbounds play but it was intercepted and Ludeman was fouled. She hit
one of two free throws for the final score.
Ludeman led the Saints with 13 points and seven
rebounds. Zack and Sade Smith added 11 points each.
The Saints, who improved to 7-1, will take on Cal
Poly Pomona today on the final day of the GNAC-CCAA Challenge.
