Women’s Basketball: Saints cut down Loggers
December 1, 2007
Lacey, WA – Saint Martin’s got a quick start right
out of the gate and never looked back as they beat the University of
Puget Sound 67-58 Saturday night at the SMU Pavilion.
Michelle Short scored the first five points of the
game as the Saints took a 12-0 lead before the Loggers finally got on
the board. They would build up a 21 point advantage with just under
seven minutes left in the half. But Puget Sound strung together an 11-2
run to finish out the half to pull within 12.
The Loggers pulled to within six at the 15:45 mark
but SMU put a stop to the rally and never let them get any closer the
rest of the game.
“It feels good to pick up the win tonight; this was
definitely a mental game for us,” said Short. “We pushed through some
adversity and never let up. It’s good to know that not only are we tough
physically but mentally as well.”
Jamey Gelhar led the Saints with 14 points on the
night. Dara Zack added 12 points, going 6-7 from the field.
Saint Martin’s took full advantage of their free
throws going 23-30 from the line.
The Saints are at home again on Friday, December 7th
when they face Warner Pacific College.
