Women’s Basketball: Saints defeat San Francisco State

Bellingham, WA – Saint Martin’s had four players in
double figures as they rolled to a 63-49 win over San Francisco State
University Saturday on the final day of the 11th annual Western
Washington Lynda Goodrich Women’s Basketball Classic on Haggen Court at
Sam Carver Gymnasium.
Sade Smith led the charge for the Saints with a
game-high 15 points and eight rebounds. Megan Busch came off the bench
to score 13 points, all in the first half. Jamey Gelhar added 12 points
while amber Harmon had 10.
Saint Martin’s jumped out to a 12-2 lead in the
first four minutes and held the Gators without a field goal for the
first five minutes. The Saints would build their lead to as much as 19
at 30-11 with just under eight minutes left in the first half. SFSU
would score thee final seven points of the half to narrow the gap to six
points.
The Gators pulled to within four on a layin by
Jessica Hout-Freeman but three-pointers by Jamey Gelhar and Amber Harmon
would put SMU back up by 10. San Francisco never got closer than five
the rest of the way.
Saint Martin’s shot 42.6 percent from the field and
held the Gators to just 33.3 percent for the game, 26.5 percent in the
second half. SMU also shot 50 percent from the three, connecting on nine
of 18.
The Saints return home to take on Notre Dame de
Namur Wednesday, November 28th at the SMU Pavilion.
