Women’s Basketball: Saints downed by Western State

Bellingham, WA – A five minute scoreless streak by
Saint Martin’s in the second half was enough for Western State College
of Colorado to claim the 65-56 victory Friday on the first day of the
11th annual Lynda Goodrich Women’s Basketball Classic on Haggen Court at
Sam Carver Gymnasium.
The Saints led the entire first half and took a
28-26 advantage into the break. They were up by as much as eight in the
second half, the last time with 10 minutes left to play. Western State
then strung together a 13-0 run to take a five point lead 5:27 left and
never trailed again.
Jamey Gelhar had a game high 19 points for the
Saints. Amber Harmon added 10 points and nine rebounds.
Western State had a total of four players with
double figure points including Audra Lawson who had 14 points and 10
rebounds.
Saint Martin’s had a 43-33 advantage on the boards
but shot just 34.5 percent from the field.
