Women’s Basketball: Saints make quick work of Geoducks
November 9, 2007
Lacey, WA – Saint Martin’s rolled to a 30 point
victory over Evergreen State College beating the Geoducks 91-59 Friday
night in an exhibition game at the SMU Pavilion.
The Saints led nearly the entire game as the
Geoducks tied it once in the first half but never took the lead
themselves. With just over a minute to go in the first half Evergreen
pulled to within four. The Saints strung together two free throw shots
from Kassie Ludeman and layups from Jamey Gelhar and Michelle Short to
take a 10 point lead into the break.
Saint Martin’s kept it up in the second half
maintaining no less then their ten point led the rest of the way. In the
final five minutes the Saints outscored the Geoducks 16-6. SMU posted a
55.6 shooting percentage from the field in the second half and held
Evergreen to just 37.9 percent.
“It felt good to get out there and play against
someone other then ourselves. It gives us an idea of where we are and
what we need to improve on,” said Ludeman, one of three seniors on this
year’s team. “We’re a lot different from last year in that we have some
returning players and all of the new girls step it up and will be huge
contributors for us.”
Ludeman led all players with 20 points and added six
rebounds. Short had 19 points while Gelhar had 18 along with six boards
of her own.
Evergreen was led by Jennifer Solberg with 15 points
and a game high 11 rebounds. SMU was able to score 30 points off of 20
ESC turnovers.
Saint Martin’s improves their record to 12-1 against
Evergreen.
The Saints’ next game will be on November 19th when
they take on BYU-Hawaii at home with a 7 p.m. tip-off.
