Women’s Basketball: Saints can’t stop offensive attack from Seawolves

Anchorage, AK (February 3) – Saint Martin’s women’s
basketball couldn’t hold off a record breaking three-point night by the
University of Alaska Anchorage falling to the Seawolves 85-59 Saturday
night at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex.
The Seawolves jumped out early taking a 7-0 lead.
With just under five minutes left in the half the Seawolves went on a
16-7 run to go into the break up 51-28.
Anchorage continued to build on their lead in the
second half. The Saints battled their way through but were never able to
pull within less then 20.
Maria Nilsson had a game high 24 points going 8-13
from the three, tying the UAA and GNAC record. The Seawolves also broke
their team record with 14 threes. Rebecca Kielpinski posted a
double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Jayci Stone also added 17
points.
Jessi Reome led the Saints with 14 points on the
night going 4-5 from the three point line. Jamey Gelhar added 10 points
of her own.
The Saints out shot the Seawolves from the three
percentage wise, 60 percent to 50 percent, but Anchorage got off far
more shots shooting 28 to the Saints 15.
The Saints are back at home this week to take on
Seattle Pacific University on Thursday the 8th.
