Women’s Basketball: Saints edged out by Crusaders

January 12, 2007

Nampa, ID (January 11) – Some key shooting in the final seconds gave Northwest Nazarene just the edge they needed to pull out a win over Saint Martin’s 52-49, Thursday in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference game.

With the score tied 47-47, NNU’s Brittney Roggenkamp put the Crusaders up by three on a made shot and free throw. The Saints pulled back within one on a jumper by Jessi Reome with 37 seconds left but the Crusaders regained the three point advantage on two made free throws by Janee Olds. Saint Martin’s had a chance to tie, but missed the three point attempt as time expired.

Breanne Lindquist led the Saints with nine points and Jessi Reome had eight. Jamey Gelhar, who went into Thursday’s game ranked number one nationally in free throw percentage, had eight points of her own and went 6-7 from the line.

The Crusaders were led by Lindsay Brady with 11 points while Roggenkamp finished with ten. Danielle Dwello posted a double-double with ten points and 12 rebounds.

The Saints out shot the Crusaders 35.3 percent to 24.2 percent from the field but were forced into 17 turnovers. The Crusaders also took control of the boards pulling down 48 rebounds to the Saints’ 36.

Saint Martin’s will head to Seattle on Saturday to take on Seattle Pacific University.
