Volleyball: Saints sweep aside Seawolves

Lacey, WA – Saint Martin’s used a balanced attack to
defeat the University of Alaska Anchorage in a three game sweep, 30-22,
30-28, 30-23, in Great Northwest Athletic Conference action Thursday
night at the SMU Pavilion.
The Saints posted a hitting percentage of .279 and
held the Seawolves to just .088 through the three game match. Shealun
Campisi led the Saints with 18 kills and 11 digs on the night and put up
a .500 hitting percentage. Andrea Tarbet and Nicole Ostlund added 11
kills each.
The Saints took the early lead in game one. UAA was
able to pull within one multiple times but the Saints never allowed them
to take the point advantage. Up by 2 at 24-22 Saint Martin’s scored the
final six points to put the game away. SMU had a .349 hitting percentage
in the game.
In game two SMU built an 18-7 only to see the
Seawolves battle their way back. With the Saints going for game point
Anchorage strung together four in a row to make it 29-28 but a kill by
Campisi was all it took as the Saints picked up the win.
Game three was tied a total of eight times, the last
at 17-17 when the Saints scored eight of the next 11 points to go ahead
by five. They were able to hold off the Seawolves, scoring the last four
points of the game. An ace by Kirstyn Druzianich gave the Saints the
game and the match.
The Saints will warp up their season this Saturday
as they take on the University of Alaska Fairbanks at home.
