Volleyball: Saints battle with Wolves, come out on losing end

Lacey, WA – Saints Martin’s fought through four
games but couldn’t fend off Western Oregon University as they fell 3-1,
30-21, 29-31, 30-16, 30-20, in Great Northwest Athletic Conference
action Saturday at the SMU Pavilion.
The Wolves scored the first five points of game one
and never let the Saints get any closer. They would go on to build their
lead to as much as 10 before sealing the win at 30-21.
Game two was a fight from the beginning. The game
was tied a total of 10 times as the two teams went back and forth
exchanging the lead. Neither team was able to take more than a four
point advantage. With the score 29-28 and WOU going for game point Malia
Ibarra picked up a kill to tie it. Shealun Campisi then smashed down two
consecutive kills for the win.
The Saints weren’t able to put anything together in
the final two games as the Wolves took an 18-7 lead in game three and
never looked back rolling to the easy win. Up 12-10 in game four western
Oregon went on a 7-2 run to go ahead by seven. SMU was never able to
pull within less the six as the Wolves took the game and the match.
Campisi led the Saints with 13 kills and 12 digs.
Kimber Simonetti had 14 digs on the night while Kanoe Kalalau had 40 set
assists.
The Saints will be at home this Thursday as they
take on the University of Alaska Anchorage.
