Volleyball: Saints lose to Crusaders in three
October 20, 2007
Nampa, ID – Shealun Campisi led all attackers with
19 kills but it wasn’t enough as Saint Martin’s fell to Northwest
Nazarene in three games, 28-30, 23-30, 19-30, in a Great Northwest
Athletic Conference match on Saturday night at the Johnson Sports
Center.
Game one stayed close throughout. The Saints were
able to build a slight three point lead at 27-24 only to see it slip
away. SMU was up 28-26 when a service error brought the Crusaders to
within one at 28-27. They would go on to score the final three points of
the game to take the win.
Saint Martin’s never led in either of the final two
games. They fell behind early in game two but were able to pull within
four but it was too little too late as NNU got the win. Game three was
all Crusaders as they got out to a 17-9 lead and never let the Saints
close the gap to less than five taking the game and the match.
Campisi added 16 digs on the night while Malia
Ibarra had 11. Kanoe Kalalau had high 33 assists. NNU hit just .169 in
the match but held the Saints to a .106 hitting percentage and force 27
attack errors.
The win was the Crusaders fourth straight as they
move to 8-4 in conference and 14-6 overall. The Saints fall to 2-11 in
conference and 2-21 overall.
The Saints next game will be Saturday, October 27th
as they take on the Western Oregon Wolves at home.
