Volleyball: Saints take Redhawks to four, fall 3-1
October 11, 2007
Lacey, WA – Saint Martin’s battled through a four
game set with Seattle University but came out on the losing end as the
Redhawks took the match 3-1, 19-30, 29-31, 30-27, 19-30, Thursday night
at the SMU Pavilion.
Game one was all Redhawks as they jumped out to an
early lead which they would never surrender. They built a solid five
point led that the Saints were never able to lessen. The Redhawks posted
a .326 hitting percentage in the game.
The second game was a fight to the very end as the
Redhawks mounted an eight point rally to tie the game at 24-24. Every
time one team scored the other quickly answered with a point of their
own. With the score 29-29 Seattle got a kill from Nikole Thompson and
was able to capitalize on a Saint attack error for game point.
Saint Martin’s took control early in game three
scoring the first point and never looked back. The Saints led from
beginning to end and boasted as much as a ten point lead. SU was able to
make a late surge pulling within two but a kill by Angela Smith put the
game away for the Saints.
Things stayed close to start off game four until
Seattle put together a 12-3 run to pull ahead 21-12. Another five point
run later in the game was too much for the Saints to overcome as the
Redhawks took the game and the match.
Kirstyn Druzianich led the Saints with 14 kills and
20 digs on the night and posted a .407 hitting percentage. Andrea Tarbet
and Shealun Campisi each had 13 kills while Campisi added 16 digs and
Tarbet tallied 11. Kimber Simonetti and Malia Ibarra recorded 18 and 15
respectively.
The Saints are at home again this Saturday as they
face the Montana State Billings Yellowjackets.
