Volleyball: Saints lose to Lutes in four

October 10, 2007

Parkland, WA – Saint Martin’s fell to number 17 ranked Pacific Lutheran University 3-1, 20-30, 30-26, 20-30, 27-30, in a non-conference volleyball match Tuesday night at the Olson Auditorium.

Game one stayed close with neither team able to capture a commanding lead until with the score 16-14 in favor of PLU the Lutes scored nine of the next 14 points. This would put them ahead 25-18 and put the game out of reach for the Saints.

Saint Martin’s held on to a lead through game two. SMU pulled ahead by five late in the game at 28-23 only to see the Lutes score three in a row to cut the deficit to two. Back-to-back kills from Kristin Anderson and Elise Dike were enough to give the Saints the win.

The third game was all Pacific Lutheran. They jumped out to a 15-9 lead and never let the Saints get within less then five rolling to a 30-20 victory.

Game four stayed close as the two team s battled for the win. The Saints kept a slight lead throughout most the game, able to fend off most of the Lute attacks. With the score 25-23 in favor of Saint Martin’s, two Saint attack errors and a kills by PLU tied the game. The Lutes would score five of the last seven points of the game for the win.

Shealun Campisi led the Saints with 17 kills and 13 digs. Kirstyn Druzianich had 13 digs of her own while Malia Ibarra added 11. Pacific Lutheran had three players with double digits in both kills and digs.

The Saints are back at home this Thursday as they take on the Redhawks of Seattle University.
