Volleyball: Saints down Seawolves for first win
October 7, 2007
Anchorage, AK – Saint Martin’s used a balanced
attack to sweep Alaska Anchorage 30-27, 30-17, 30-21, Saturday at the
Wells Fargo Sports Complex.
The two teams battled back and forth in game one
with the score tied a total of 20 times throughout, the last time at
27-27. Consecutive kills by Andrea Tarbet, Kristin Anderson and Kirstyn
Druzianich gave the Saints the win.
Game two was all Saints as they pulled out to a 14-7
lead followed by a 7-2 run that put them up 21-9. There was nothing the
Seawolves could do as the Saints scored five of the last eight points to
roll to the easy victory.
The score was close through most of game three until
up by two with the score 15-13, the Saints went on a six point run to
pull ahead 21-13. The deficit was too much for the Seawolves to overcome
giving the Saints the game and the match.
Shealun Campisi led the Saints with 15 kills and
eight digs on the night posting a .286 hitting percentage. As a team the
Saints hit .270 while holding the Seawolves to just .142. Tarbet had 12
kills for the Saints while Malia Ibarra added 11 digs. Druzianich posted
a team high four blocks.
The win ended a 29-match losing streak for the
Saints. It was their first win since September 21, 2006 when they beat
the Seawolves by the same score.
The Saints are back home this week to take on
Seattle University Thursday night at the SMU Pavilion.
