Volleyball: Saints fall to Nanooks in three
October 4, 2007
Fairbanks, AK – The University of Alaska Fairbanks
defeated Saint Martin’s in three straight sets, 30-23, 30-12, and 30-24
Thursday night at the Patty Center.
Game one stayed close as the Saints battled to stay
in it. The score went back and forth with each team trying to gain an
edge. Saint Martin’s was up by two, 18-16, until a Saint service error
gave UAF the ball and put them within one. The Nanooks put together a
7-1 run to pull away and SMU was never able to recover.
The Nanooks came out strong in game two. UAF never
trailed in the game and hit .464 with only one error against them. The
Saints managed just six kills in the game as Fairbanks rolled to the
easy win.
With the score tied 10-10 in game three, Fairbanks
went on a 14-6 run to pull out to a 25-17 lead. The Saints then scored
five in a row to pull within three at 25-22. UAF was able to fend them
off scoring five of the last seven points in the game to take the win.
Shealun Campisi led Saint Martin’s with 10 kills,
the only Saint in double digits. Andrea Tarbet added seven kills and
seven digs while Kirstyn Druzianich had nine digs. The Saints were held
to just a .125 hitting percentage throughout the match.
Saint Martin’s will remain in Alaska as the head to
