Volleyball: Saints fall in four
September 29, 2007
Monmouth, OR – Saint Martin’s took Western Oregon to
four games but couldn’t pull out the victory losing 32-34, 12-30, 30-25,
21-30 Saturday night at the New PE Building.
Game one was a battle as the two teams went back and
forth. The Wolves got up by as much as five half way through going up
21-16 but the Saints fought back to tie it 25-25. Up 29-28, going for
the game point, SMU committed an attack error tying things back up. Both
teams continued to go point-for-point until with the score again tied at
32-32 Western Oregon got back-to-back kills from Kayla Mainer for the
win.
The Wolves took control in game two quickly building
a 20-7 lead. With the score 4-4 Western Oregon went on a seven point run
to pull ahead 11-4. They would put together a five point run and another
seven point run later in the game to put the Saints out of reach.
Game three stayed close throughout. While neither
team was able to pull away by more then three, the Wolves maintained the
slight edge until the Saints tied it at 18-18. From that point on Saint
Martin’s never allowed WOU to regain the lead and went on the take the
game.
The Saints built a 6-0 lead in game four only to see
the Wolves score 11 of the next 15 to tie it 11-11. Up by one at 16-15,
Western Oregon put together a nine point run to increase their lead to
ten, a deficit the Saints could not recover from.
Shealun Campisi posted 21 digs and 14 kills for the
Saints. Andrea Tarbet had 13 digs and 12 kills while Malia Ibarra and
Kimber Simonetti added 12 digs each.
The Saints will head to Alaska this week to take on
