Volleyball: Saints fall in four
September 13, 2007
Billings, MT – Saint Martin’s took game one of their
match against Montana State Billings, 30-23, but couldn’t hold on losing
the next three to the Yellowjackets, 30-27, 30-24, 30-19, at Alterowitz
Gym Thursday night.
Game one stayed close early on until up 15-14 the
Saints went on a 9-2 run to go ahead 24-16. Back-to-back kills by the
Yellowjackets and an attack error by the Saints pulled MSUB to within
six at 29-23. An attack error by Billings was all Saint Martin’s needed
for the win.
The Yellowjackets took the early lead in game two
but the Saints battled to pull within one at 22-21. MSUB was able to
pick up the win by scoring eight of the last 14 points for the win.
Game three was much the same as MSUB maintained the
lead with the Saints close on their heels. Down by two at 24-22 the
Saints committed a service error giving the Yellowjackets the point and
the ball which they used to their advantage as they were able to fend
off the Saints for the win.
MSUB built a solid lead in game four after going up
22-14. They continued to add to their point advantage to take the win
30-19.
The Saints had three with 10 kills each on the night
including Malia Ibarra, Andrea Tarbet and Nicole Ostlund. Kimber
Simonetti and Ibarra each added 15 digs while Tarbet posted 11.
The Saints will face Seattle University this
Saturday in Seattle.
