Volleyball: Vikings roll past Saints

Lacey, WA – A strong Western Washington team handed
Saint Martin's their first conference loss in a three game match, 30-13,
30-15, and 30-14, Thursday night at the SMU Pavilion.
The Vikings scored six in game one before the Saints
notched their first point on the board. WWU pulled out to a nine point
lead at 22-13 then went on to score the final eight points of the game
for the win.
Game two saw Western again jump out to an early lead
going up 16-2. The Saints were never able to get within less then 11 as
the Vikings picked up the win.
The Saints kept it close to start out game three.
Tied 5-5 WWU went ahead by three but the Saints answered back tying it
8-8. The Viking regained the lead and with the score 16-12 went on a
run. They would score the next seven points and 14 of the last 16 to win
the game and the match.
Nicole Ostlund led the Saints with six kills and
Shealun Campisi added five. Malia Ibarra put up 10 digs while Andrea
Tarbet, Stephanie Erdman, and Ostlund added seven each.
The Vikings, who posted a .352 hitting percentage
for the match, picked up 22 digs from Courtney Schneider while Jamie
Anderson and Emily Castro each added 10.
The Saints’ next match will be this Saturday,
September 8th against Central Washington at the SMU Pavilion.
