Volleyball: Saints can’t hold on against Vulcans

Lacey, WA – Saint Martin’s volleyball lost to Hawaii
Hilo 3-1 in their first home match of the year Tuesday night at the SMU
Pavilion.
The Saints got the early lead taking game one 30-27.
With the Vulcans up 23-20, SMU scored the next five points to go ahead
25-23. Hilo was able to regain the lead 27-26 but the Saints scored the
final four points to pick up the victory.
The Vulcans pulled away in game two but down 15-9
Saint Martin’s scored nine of the next 12 points to tie it 18-18. Hilo
scored the next five going ahead 23-18, a deficit the Saints could not
recover from.
Game three saw UHH build a solid lead going up by as
much as 12 at one point. Late in the game the Saints went on short four
point run closing the gap to eight but it wasn’t enough as they lost
30-21.
Late in game four Hilo put together a 10-2 run to
manufacture a 27-17 advantage. Saint Martin’s battled back to cut the
point deficit to six at 28-22 but it was too little too late as the
Vulcans got the win 30-23.
Shealun Campisi led the Saints with 15 kills and 16
digs. Malia Ibarra added 15 digs and six kills while Andrea Tarbet had
10 digs and seven kills.
Hilo had four players with ten plus kills including
Hillary Hurley with 20, Fabiane Seben with 17, Lauren Bayer at 12 and
Josimara Pinheiro added 11.
The Saints get set to take on Western Washington
University at home this Thursday in their first conference game of the
year.
