Volleyball: Saints wrap up play at UNK Tournament

Kearney, NE – Saint Martin’s went 0-3 in their final three matches at the UNK Fall Classic losing to Northern State, NW Missouri, and Montevallo Friday and Saturday.

The Saints fell to Northern State 3-0 on Friday. The first game was extremely close. The Wolves were able to maintain the slight lead until an attack error tied the game 29-29. Back-to-back kills by NSU’s Kelsey Aden and Emily Knaeble secured the win for the Wolves 33-31. They would go on to win the final to games 30-13 and 30-18 to take the match.

Andrea Tarbet and Shealun Campisi led the Saints with 12 digs each. Campisi added nine kills while Tarbet posted seven.

Saint Martin’s was beat 3-0 by the Bearcats of NW Missouri State in their first match Saturday. With the score 15-14 in game one the Bearcats scored 15 of the last 22 points to put the game away 30-20. The Saints were down by just two in the second game, 21-19, but NW scored the final nine points of the game for the win. The Bearcats jumped out early in the final game building a 15-5 and never looked back winning 30-13.

Tarbet had 12 digs for the Saints and seven kills. Malia Ibarra added 11 digs and five kills while Allora Dehan led Saint Martin’s with eight kills.

Saint Martin’s came out strong against Montevallo in game one. The Saints jumped ahead early taking a 10-3 lead. The Falcons never pulled to within less then three as the Saints picked up the win 30-24. Montevallo mounted a solid comeback in the final three games narrowly beating SMU 30-28 in game two. They would go on to take games three and four 30-19 and 30-22.

SMU combined for 88 digs in the game with five players having more than ten each. Campisi led the charge with 19 while Kanoe Kalalau added 16; Ibarra had 13 and Angela Smith 11. Tarbet had 12 digs along with 11 kills. Dehan posted a team high 13 kills.

The Saints will face Northwest University in Seattle on August 30th.
