Volleyball: Saints drop first game at Nebraska-Kearney Tournament

Kearney, NE – Saint Martin’s fell to host Nebraska-Kearney in three Friday afternoon in their first game at the UNK Fall Classic held at the Health and Sports Center. The Saints were defeated 30-11, 30-7, and 30-21.

Saint Martin’s scored first in game one but the Lopers quickly pulled away and were able to hold off the Saints and take game one. UNK took a commanding lead in game two with a six point run followed by an eight point run and held the Saints to just seven points.

The Saints battled in game three. Nebraska-Kearney took the early lead but SMU kept it close and was down by two when a kill from the Lopers’ Emily Christen started a six point run which the Saints could not recover from.

Shealun Campisi led the Saints with seven kills and had five digs. Malia Ibarra added eight digs and two service aces while Allora Dehan posted five kills and three blocks.

The Lopers were led by Jeri Walkowaik with eight kills while three others had six each. Kelli Wemhoff and Cola Svec had 16 and 15 digs respectively. Svec also finished with 41 set assists.

The Saints wrap up play Saturday with two more games against NW Missouri State and Montevallo.
