Volleyball: Saints fall in final match of the season

Bellingham, WA (November 4) – Saint Martin’s
University volleyball lost in three, 30-23, 30-17, and 30-21, to a tough
Western Washington team Saturday night at Carver Gymnasium.
Saint Martin’s kept it close in game one but Western
was able to maintain the lead. They never let the Saints get within more
then four. The Saints just couldn’t bridge that gap and the Vikings went
on to win 30-23.
Game two was close early until with the score tied
8-8 WWU went on a tear scoring 19 of the next 25 points to go up 27-14.
The Saints never recovered losing 30-17.
The Saints were down in game three 20-13. They
fought back and posted a couple of late runs but they couldn’t pull any
closer then five. A service error and attack error by the Saints was
enough to put the game away for the Vikings.
Shealun Campisi led the Saints with 9 kills and 10
digs. Kimber Simonetti had 13 digs while Holly Nilson posted 10 digs and
added 2 service aces. Lisa Hall tied for a match high 23 set assists.
Western Washington University was ranked 6th in the
Pacific Region rating and has qualified for the Pacific Regionals.
The Saints closed out their season with a record of
1-19 overall and 1-15 in league.
