Volleyball: Saints unable to record win in final home match
November 2, 2006
Lacey, WA – The Saint Martin’s volleyball team
battled through three tough games but were unable to pull out a win as
they were defeated by Western Oregon University, 20-30, 16-30, and
28-30, Thursday night at the SMU Pavilion.
Western Oregon never trailed in game one jumping out
to a 10-3 lead. The Saints tried to fight their way but never managed to
pull within less then a four point deficit. Two late runs by the Wolves
were all it took for them to take the win, 30-20.
Game two started out a back-and-forth struggle with
both teams trying to get the edge. With the score 11-11 WOU went on a
nine point run to take control of the game. The Saints tried to put
together a couple of late rallies but were never able to recover, losing
16-30.
The Saints jumped ahead early in game three, at one
time posting a seven point advantage. They led the entire game until
Western Oregon came back to tie it 28-28. A service ace by Claire
Carpenter and a kill by Katrina Johnson were all WOU needed to put the
game away.
Senior Lisa Hall, in the last home match of her
collegiate career, put up 31 assists for the Saints and added 10 digs
and three service aces. Shealun Campisi led the Saints in kills with 13
as well as posting 12 digs. Andrea Tarbet contributed 11 digs and 6
kills on the night.
The Saints will play their final game of the season
this Saturday when they travel to Bellingham to take on the Western
Washington University Vikings.
