Volleyball: Saints battle Redhawks but lose in three
October 26, 2006
Lacey, WA – Shealun Campisi had a match high 22
kills but it wasn’t enough as Saint Martin’s fell to Seattle University
in three hard fought matches 30-25, 30-26, and 30-23 in a Great
Northwest Athletic Conference contest Thursday night at the Saint
Martin’s Pavilion.
Game one was a back-and-forth contest with the score
tied a total of 12 times throughout. At 23-23 the Redhawks took the lead
on a Saints attack error. That was all Seattle University needed to take
the win 30-25.
The second game was close until Seattle University
went on a six point run to go up 24-16. The Saints inched their way back
to cut the Redhawks’ lead to three but a kill from Seattle University’s
Lauren Campbell put the game away.
Saint Martin’s was behind early in game three. Down
4-17 the Saints began to battle their way back scoring 17 of the next 25
points to pull within four at 21-25. The rally was just not enough as
the Redhawks went on to win 23-30.
“So close but so far,” said head coach Phil Ibarra.
“I’m proud of their performance tonight. The scoreboard doesn’t reflect
how well they played.”
Campisi and Kimber Simonetti both added 10 digs on
the night. Andrea Tarbet posted eight digs and eight kills while Lisa
Hall put up 33 set assists.
“We have one more home match and I would love it if
everyone came out to support Lisa Hall and the rest of the Saint
Martin’s women’s volleyball program.”
The Saints will celebrate senior night as they take
on Western Oregon University in their final home match of the season
next Thursday November 2nd.
