Volleyball: Saints battle Seawolves but fall in four

Anchorage, AK (October 7) – Saint Martin’s lost to
the University of Alaska Anchorage Seawolves in four tough games, 29-31,
27-30, 30-24, 28-30, Saturday at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex.
The Seawolves led through most of game one but the
Saints came back to tie it up more then once, the final time at 29-29. A
costly attack error by the Saints put UAA back on top. A kill from UAA’s
Brenda Cooper sealed the win for the Seawolves.
Game two was extremely close as both teams battled
for control. The Saints tied it up 27-27 but the Seawolves captured the
final points on two kills and an attack error by the Saints.
Game three was another close game with the lead
constantly changing hands. With the score tied 17-17 the Saints powered
ahead with a five point run. Saint Martin’s never let UAA within less
then four and winning by a final score of 24-30.
Alaska Anchorage fell behind early in game four
14-22 but fought back. The Seawolves scored 12 of the next 16 points to
tie the game at 26-26. Two consecutive kills by the Seawolves put them
up by two. An attack error on UAA put the Saints back to within one but
they were unable to put it away as Alaska Anchorage won 30-28.
Saint Martin’s had four players in double figures.
Shealun Campisi had 25 kills, while Elise Dike had 15. Kristin Anderson
had 11 kills and Andrea Tarbet had 10. Lisa Hall put up 51 assists and
13 digs.
The Saints’ next match will be at home on October
12th as they take on the Western Washington University Vikings.
