Volleyball: Saints can’t hold on against Nanooks
September 23, 2006
Lacey, WA – The Saints came out strong winning game
one but were unable to hang on as they fell to the University of Alaska
Fairbanks in four 30-28, 30-26, 30-21, and 30-22 on Saturday at the
Saint Martin’s Pavilion.
The Saints were down early in game one but fought
their way back and kept themselves in the game. An attack error by the
Nanooks opened the door for the Saints to tie it up and take the lead.
In game two Saint Martin’s took an early lead but Alaska Fairbanks
powered their way back winning 30-26.
Saint Martin’s was within striking distance for much
of game three but two five point runs by the Nanooks were all it took to
over power the Saints. They were able to keep themselves in it for most
game four but fell behind towards the end. Two attack errors by the
Saints were enough to hand Alaska Fairbanks the game and the match.
“We made a lot of little mistakes and compounding
errors,” said assistant coach Mieka Eisen. “We need to come hard. We
have the talent; we just need to maintain the mental and emotional side
of the game.”
Shealun Campisi led five Saints in double digits in
digs with 16. Andrea Tarbet added 11 as well as 12 kills. Kristin
Anderson had 14 digs and 10 kills of her own while Kimber Simonetti
contributed 12 digs. Lisa Hall had 12 digs and 39 set assists.
The Saints’ next match is Thursday September 28th as
they take on Seattle Pacific University at the SMU Pavilion.
