Volleyball: Saints ink four to National Letters of Intent

May 23, 2006

Lacey, WA --- Saint Martin’s University head volleyball coach Phil Ibarra announced the signing of four high school seniors to National Letters of Intent. Joining the Saints’ volleyball team next year will be Shealun Campisi, Leilani Ramsey, Kristin Anderson and Elise Dike.

“These four athletes will bring much needed depth to the Saint Martin's volleyball program this coming year,” noted Ibarra.

Campisi, a senior outside hitter from White River High School, recorded 63 kills at the State Tournament in leading her team to a second place finish and receiving first team All-State honors in her senior season. She is a four-time first team All-Seamount League selection, including Most Valuable Player honors this past year, and two-time first team All-Area and All-State honoree. She was awarded the state sportsmanship medallion all four years of her high school career. Campisi has been a member of the Puget Sound Volleyball Club for seven years and has competed in three Junior Olympic National Tournaments.

Ramsey, a senior outside hitter from Fife High School and club teammate to Campisi, was selected to the Washington State West All-Star team which will compete this summer at Fife High School and in Eastern Washington. In her senior season, she was selected as first team All-Seamount League in leading her team to a fourth place finish at the State Championships. She was also selected as team Most Valuable Player.

“Both Shealun and Leilani have competed at the Junior Olympic Nationals since the age of 14. They also come from one of the powerhouse volleyball clubs in the Puget Sound Region,” said Ibarra. “Both players are strong outside hitters and are expected to have an immediate impact in our program.”

Anderson, a senior outside hitter from LaSalle High School, has earned many honors over the years. She was the recipient of the team Most Valuable Player award her freshman year and the Coach’s Award her sophomore year. In her senior season, she was named team captain and collected first team All-League honors.

“Kristin will be a force in our conference. Her explosive athletic ability will be something to watch this coming season,” stated Ibarra. “Her passion and determination for this game is unbelievable. We are fortunate to have an athlete of this caliber and talent as a part of our program.”

Dike, a middle blocker from Shelton High School, is a three-year letter winner. In her senior season, she posted 222 kills with 22 coming in one match on her way to earning Most Valuable Player and first team All-Narrows League honors. She is also a standout in the classroom as she is a member of the National Honor Society, Phi Beta Kappa, Dean’s List and will graduate from high school with an AA Degree from South Puget Sound Community College.

“Elise will bring much needed depth and versatility to our squad,” Ibarra added.

Ibarra continued, “We are truly excited about these four athletes coming into our program. We are looking to bring in a couple more athletes to finalize an already strong recruiting class.”

Saint Martin’s, in Ibarra’s first season at the helm, finished with an overall record of 1-24 and 1-17 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference action.
