Volleyball: Bautista honored as
All-Conference Selection

Saint Martin's University senior libero Kirstin
Bautista (University Place, WA) was an honorable mention selection on
the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Volleyball All-Star Team
announced on Monday.
Bautista led the Saints in digs (267) and digs per
game (3.34). Her per game average was the 13th best mark among
conference competition. She also led the team in service aces (29) with
a .36 percentage, good enough to finish no. 12 in the GNAC.
Saint Martin’s finished the 2005 season at 1-24
overall and 1-17 in GNAC play.
Central Washington middle blocker LeAnne McGahuey
was voted the GNAC Player of the Year. McGahuey, who led the Wildcats to
a share of their second consecutive conference title, was a near
unanimous choice for the honor, receiving eight of 10 first-place votes
in the balloting by the league coaches.
CWU Coach Mario Andaya and Seattle Pacific Coach
Chris Johnson tied in the balloting for the Coach-of-the-Year award.
Andaya guided the Wildcats to a 22-4 record this season and has a
152-125 record in 10 seasons at his alma mater. He also won the
Coach-of-the-Year award last season.
Johnson led the Falcons to a 22-5 record in his
rookie season, earning a share of the conference title with CWU and the
GNAC's automatic berth in the NCAA Pacific Regional playoffs. Last year,
SPU finished with a 15-11 record.
Also winning special awards were Tiana Roma of
Western Washington and Lindsey Fryer of Northwest Nazarene who shared
GNAC Freshman-of-the-Year honors.
Roma ended the regular-season ranked third in
hitting percentage (.328), sixth in blocks (1.06) and 13th in points
(3.38), while Fryer finished sixth in points (4.00) and seventh in kills
(3.17).
